The OSU Precision Agriculture Team
Visit our Team Specialists
The goal of the Precision Agriculture team is to coordinate
and enhance research, teaching and education outreach
efforts on behalf of the University in the area of precision
agriculture. Research and outreach efforts have currently
impacted several commodity areas in Ohio including agronomic
crops, vegetable and fruit production, turfgrass, forages,
organic, and sustainable enterprises.
This multidisciplinary team consists of more than 40
researchers, educators, and students from various departments/units
across the University, Agricultural Technical Institute,
and county Extension Offices in Ohio. This team focuses
around tools and systems used to understand and manage
variability in soil/water/plant systems, develop solutions
for farm profitability and food quality, and develop
systems for environmental protection and sustainability.
This involves using systems and technologies such as
electrical conductivity, remote sensing, GIS, GPS, yield
monitoring, sensors and other sampling techniques, variable
rate technologies, decision support systems, geostatistics,
geospatial analysis systems, farm management, and other
tools.
The team meets regularly to discuss and collaborate
on projects, new initiatives, funding opportunities,
joint educational and research events, and sharing of
resources. A select group of specialists involved on
the team meet more regularly throughout the year on
important issues that need addressed for specific projects
and education programs.
An electronic mailing list was established in 1997
to allow audiences interested in precision agriculture
to receive news, information, and research information
from the team and other sources (precisfm@postoffice.ag.ohio-state.edu).
You can subscribe on your own by sending a message to
